It is necessary to maintain those beautiful trails that members get to ride on during a hunt. Members ride on ATVs to take down low hanging branches or cut down trees that have fallen over the trails. Don't have a chain saw or loppers, no problem! You can still come and help move brush away that is cut down by other members. As a riding member we do ask that you help maintain the trails and do your part in Country Keeping.
For those who do not wish to work, a check for $100 per day ($200 total) is also acceptable, payable to the Long Lake Hounds. Each season a record of all country keeping efforts is maintained. Those not fulfilling their responsibility will be billed accordingly. The countryside is divided into thirteen areas. Each area has a designated Country Keeping Leader(s). You may choose one of two options: 1.) Choose a Country Keeping Leader and assign yourself to his/her Country. The Leader will schedule specific times to do the work. OR 2.) Contact one of the Masters to let them know your availability Anyone unable to fulfill their country keeping duties may talk with one of the Master’s to arrange an alternative. Any questions, please see one of the Masters..
Hunt Colors The official colors of the LLH hunt are buff collar with gold piping and LLH buttons. The privilege of wearing the colors of the Long Lake Hounds is awarded at the discretion of the Joint Masters to members in good standing, on the basis of the following criteria: Regularly and competently riding to hounds and observing all hunt rules and etiquette. Turning out at meets appropriately dressed, on a clean horse with clean tack. Willingness to work, build fences, and clear trails. Conscientious maintenance of landowners’ good will. Attendance at meetings and events. Helping exercise hounds. As a general rule, colors are not awarded to members until they have ridden with the Hunt at least two full seasons or more, and are only very rarely awarded to Juniors before their 16th birthday.
